How To: The Lebron James Crossover

how to crossover

If you know me then you know that I love dribble moves that are effective and simple.

The Lebron James Crossover is one of those kind of moves.

I’m a big Lebron fan and have watched a lot of his games and this is one move I’ve noticed that he uses pretty often.

He has decent ball handling skills, especially for his size, but his ball handling is not something that he is known for.  So for him this is a great move.

As a defender it is very difficult to stop when your guarding someone that is bigger and stronger.

Lets just go ahead and take a look at what this move looks like in a game and then I’ll get into how to execute this move.

I know in that clip that there are a few extra dribbles and crossovers before the actual move.

The actual move though is the last through the legs that Lebron used.

You might be thinking right now, “What? That’s just a through the legs dribble.”

Patience young Grasshopper, I will show you the way.

So this move is more than just a through the legs dribble because you are actually going to go through the legs, hesitate, and then try to blow past the defender.

It’s that hesitation that makes this move different.

So here is a step by step on how this move is broken down:

  • Through the legs
  • Hesitation
  • Jab step
  • Load up
  • Explode out
PRO TIP: If you move laterally away from the defense while you're hesitating you will create a new lane for you to penetrate.

The Complete Breakdown

Now that you know exactly how to execute this move it would only make sense for you to learn the counter to this move.

The counter should be used when the defender reacts really hard to your hesitation and lateral movement and tries to cut that off.

Did you check out that gym?

Pretty weird huh?

It’s actually a home gym.  My friend actually owns it and it’s in his backyard.

It’s not regulation size and it’s super fun to play 3 on 3 “full court.”

Ok, so that’s it for this breakdown of The Lebron James Crosssover Move.
