The Scissor Ladder Dribbling Drill

165.

That’s how many times you’re going to be going through your legs in this one dribbling drill.

Want to know the best part though?

You can do this drill from home or really anywhere you have some elbow room.

At this point you’re wondering, “Why the heck is called The Scissor Ladder Dribbling Drill?”

What do scissors have to do with ball handling?

Well dribbling through your legs is also known as a scissor dribble.

Michael Jordan scissor dribbling

Imagine that your legs are the blades of the scissors...

Even Michael Jordan knew what was up back in the day when the shorts were actually...well...short

I've used this drill with college players as a way to get warmed up and get their dribbling reps in.

But I've also used this drill with players as young as 10 years old who are just starting to be able to scissor dribble through their legs.

What I've found is that if a young player can't do this drill very well they are able to improve rather quickly at it and it is something that they will normally work hard at to be able to do.

I guess it's because it looks cool and is something they can practice at home as well.

Ok, ok, enough talk lets get right into the drill.

When it comes to any dribbling drill there are a few things you want to focus on and they are:

  • Keep your head and eyes up.
  • Dribble as hard and fast as you can.
  • Keep the dribble low.
  • Go so hard that you make mistakes at times.
  • Use your shoulders, eyes, head, and feet to sell fakes.

Remember that you are going to do 3 sets of this drill.

And yep, in total that is 165 reps.

I don't think that too many other dribbling drills allow you to get in so many reps in such a short amount of time.

This can be used as a warmup, part of your workout, or just something you do at home to practice your scissor dribble.

If you can complete the entire ladder without messing up I would love to see it.

Record a video of yourself doing this drill and share it on Instagram, Facebook, and or Twitter, with the hashtag #WeDedicated and I'll check it out and feature a few of you here on the this blog post.
