Most basketball shooting drills are basic and only involve catching and shooting the basketball. In this drill we involve more than just catch and shoot. There are three different variations to this drill.
- 2 dribbles before each cone and crossover
- 1 dribble before each cone and crossover
- Just using the crossover to weave in between each cone
The reason basketball shooting drills like these are so effective is that they prepare you for all the different situations in the game while at the same time improving you ball handling.
The first variation will help you blow by defenders in tight spaces in the half court where you have to use mulitple dribbles and keep control. The second variation is to help you work on changing directions quickly and multiple times without slowing down or losing the ball. And finally the last variation is to work on your being able to counter defenders if they are to cut off your first crossover you need to be able to cross back over immediately without taking an extra dribble that will slow you down.
With that said watch the basketball shooting drills video below and see exactly what I’m talking about.
