Ball Handling Workout: The Basketball Training Series Part 1

This post is part 1 of The Basketball Training Series.

“But AUUUGIE, when does the series end?”

Answer: IDK, never?

Do I really need an ending point?

I just want to see how long I can keep it going.

As the series continues I’ll make sure to add link to Part 2, 3, etc.

What The Basketball Training Series Is:

This is an ongoing series of videos of me training players.

But even more than that I hope you take notes, and listen to the teaching points.

What The Basketball Training Series Isn’t:

It’s not a forum for you to criticize my players or show any kind of hate.

Any of that will be deleted.  Trust me they get criticized enough from their coaches in real life.

I work with guys of all levels.  Some in college, some in grade school, and some in high school.

In the end you, me, and the players in these videos are all just working to improve, remember that.

Ok that’s about it.

Lets get into the fun stuff!

Part 1: Ball Handling Workout


What the heck did I just watch?

Answer: Reps

Yep, that was a whole bunch of ball handling reps in a very short amount of time.

I'm sure you can agree that if you did this little workout 5 days a week you would be a better ball handler.

Here are a few things that were mentioned in the ball handling workout video, but should be reiterated:

  • I know it's not always possible you should try and keep your head up.
  • Every dribble should be dribbled hard and precise.
  • Your footwork is also very important in your ball handling.
  • Use your feet, shoulder, and more to sell each move you're working on.
  • Challenge yourself. You should be slightly out of your comfort zone during any ball handling workout.
  • Make sure you're working equally on both hands.

The player featured in this video is a NCAA D3 college player.

He plays point guard and just finished up his Freshman year in this video.

  • 2 Ball Pop Ups
  • Handle Passing
  • Cone Drill
