The Weave Drill

Most basketball shooting drills are basic and only involve catching and shooting the basketball. In this drill we involve more than just catch and shoot. There are three different variations to this drill.
  1. 2 dribbles before each cone and crossover
  2. 1 dribble before each cone and crossover
  3. Just using the crossover to weave in between each cone

The reason basketball shooting drills like these are so effective is that they prepare you for all the different situations in the game while at the same time improving you ball handling.

The first variation will help you blow by defenders in tight spaces in the half court where you have to use mulitple dribbles and keep control.  The second variation is to help you work on changing directions quickly and multiple times without slowing down or losing the ball.  And finally the last variation is to work on your being able to counter defenders if they are to cut off your first crossover you need to be able to cross back over immediately without taking an extra dribble that will slow you down.

With that said watch the basketball shooting drills video below and see exactly what I’m talking about.

I hope you liked this drill and if you have any questions or comments please leave them below in the comment section of this page and I will get back to you.  Remember that with these basketball shooting drills you can choose what you do after the beginning ball handling part.  You can shoot a step back, pull up, or even hesitate and finish at the rim.
