He specifically wanted to learn some basketball moves for shooting guards.
I didn’t really know how to go about creating that, but I thought that I would share 3 moves that I use as a shooting guard that don’t require me to use the dribble.
So these are great for any player that can shoot the ball from outside and doesn’t like to break defenders down off the dribble.
The sweep move is the first move that I teach players when I work with them in person because it is the best way to penetrate out of triple threat.
It is something that you can start using immediately as it basically is just a change of direction move and there is not much to it.
I wanted to include the jab step because most of the time shooters operate out of triple threat and need to get that defender to change his stance up or get off balance.
If you can use the jab step to get a defender to jump back and create a little space…you can now shoot the ball or at least make a shot fake so that the defense has to react due to the fact you can make that shot with that space you just gained.
With the last move, the long jab step, you’re going to really force the defense to move their feet.
I personally love this move and it’s not taught very often since it’s kind of taboo to jab so big, but I use this personally so I thought I’d share it.
I will be doing a complete breakdown of the move in the future as I think it’s very powerful…especially if you’re playing 1 on 1.
I think the reason it’s not taught is because you are really getting out of your stance and if you’re playing in a real game it’s a ball stopping move as well which is never good.
Ball stopping is when the ball is swinging or moving from player to player and then one guy gets it and starts faking, jabbing and doesn’t do one of the three things…shoot, drive, or pass.
But with that said there is of course a time and place for this move as well.
Try it out the next time you play 1 on 1.
Ok that's about it for this video.
If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment.
And if you know of any other good basketball moves for shooting guards comment those as well.
