Don’t you just hate it when you go to play some pickup at a local gym or outdoor court and you can’t even finish a game because everyone’s arguing the entire time?
That happens way too often.
Part of the reason that happens is that people don’t know the proper etiquette to calling fouls.
I’ve seen people kick the basketball, quit playing, and even full blown fist fights over some stupid call.
That’s what led me to record this podcast.

March 1, 2015Hey, I know the feeling. Recently, I was playing and somebody recklessly swung their elbows back and hit me right in the mouth. He busted lip and broke my tooth right in half. He hit me so hard that I actually blacked out and got dizzy for a few seconds. I was so mad, but I just slammed the ball down and walked off.
Really no point in fighting unless it was done intentionally, which I know it wasn’t. It was just a person playing recklessly and stupid.

March 1, 2015In a pickup game, do you think it’s better for your team to play zone or man-on-man defense?
Augie Johnston
March 2, 2015Man to man. No one should ever play zone in pickup.

March 1, 2015Dang, I guess I have a lot of comments on this subject matter… I also get called for carrying sometimes but to me it’s not a carry. My hand is still on the side of the ball, even though it’s more towards the top.
It’s weird though, because when I watch refs in high school ball they do often call what I do a carry, but when I watch refs in the NBA they don’t call it a carry normally.
So really it comes down to the discretion of the person calling it a carry on you. In street ball I don’t think you should call carry on somebody unless it’s blatantly obvious, otherwise your just creating an unnecessary headache.

March 2, 2015I agree about when playing streetball. They shouldn’t call that. The less calls the better to keep the game going. But yeah, you can get away with a lot more in the NBA than you can in high school.
